Classes Available @ MDC

Classical ballet

One of the earliest forms of dance and also the basis for all other dance styles. Ballet is a disciplined art teaching control, co-ordination, balance, poise and confidence. Technique taught in a ballet class is used in all other dance forms and is demanding yet one of the most rewarding.

Technical Ballet
These classes are specifically designed to compliment the students’ regular ballet class.  Junior levels will focus on strengthening and developing poise & technique, Senior classes will focus on Pointe work.

Stretch This class is designed for the student/beginner.  Stretching, strength work, physical fitness and overall wellbeing are developed.

Hip Hop

A fusion of street, funk and all over body work out, these classes are taught via the ATOD brand new syllabus and are proving very popular!

Pre-Assessment

Classes designed for our youngest students – introducing music, movement, characterisation and creativity.  Students learn the basics of Jazz, Tap, and Ballet.

Tap

At MDC students study the new Glen Wood Tap syllabus, with levels designed to train students in timing, rhythmic tapping, technique, turns and combinations that flow from grade to grade.  Students learn many styles of tap from waltz to speed tapping.  It’s very exciting and lots of fun!

Jazz

Fun, dynamic and energetic.  Common words used to describe the new Jazz Moves Syllabus we teach at MDC.  Levels are graded for student progression and within the levels students will learn cabaret, modern, lyrical, dancing with props, contemporary.

Acrobatics

We have two acrobatics classes – a junior/beginner where students will learn essential skills such as cartwheels, handstands, walkovers, partner skills and basic strength training.

The senior class builds on these skills learnt previously and adds elements like aerials, ‘tricks’ partner & group work and requires students to work on their strength & flexibility.  This class is the performance team and entry is by skill level.

Performance

These classes are for students wishing to be involved with performance arts.  In order to be selected for these teams students must be studying at least two forms of dance with MDC.

Classes are designed to polish and perfect group dances for the Eisteddfods and Public Performances, students in these classes are expected to commit to this. Students must demonstrate strong performance ability, a positive attitude towards their team-mates, a willingness to reach a high level of technique and to represent the studio in a respectful and courteous manner.
